“All my friends are losing so much weight!”
“It’s so easy. The weight just falls right off.”
"This diet is the way to go.. you lose 150lbs in 3 days. It’s insane.” (parody, of course)
We get it. It’s tempting.
However, consider these questions:
Is the “Quick Fix” worth the cost?
WHY does the “Quick Fix” work? (Or, does it actually work?)
How do you plan on sustaining the “Quick Fix” results?
Let’s dive in!
Types of Quick Fixes
These days, "Quick Fixes” are falling into all types of categories:
Semaglutide Injections
Fad Diets/Trends (KETO, Paleo, Vegan, Carnivore, etc.)
Weight Loss Pills
etc.
For one reason or another, these quick fixes gain popularity, usually very quickly.
If anything gets popular super fast, I am skeptical.
If someone is telling you THIS IS THE ONLY WAY, I am skeptical.
If they use terms like “Never BEFORE”, I am skeptical.
If I detect inauthentic monetary backing, I am skeptical.
I’ve talked about this in the past, but I am big believer in understanding WHY.
Unless I understand the WHY, it’s hard for me to get on board.
Additionally, if I understand it, but don’t agree with it, I’m definitely not getting on board..
At E3 Nutrition, you’ll find we don’t promote any ONE specific diet or methodology.
Instead, we provide objective education, empowering you to make decisions that will elevate your overall health and performance.
We call this Complete, Nutritional Freedom.
Worth the Cost?
For things like semaglutides & weight loss pills, the costs can weigh a little more..
Not only is there additional monetary costs (doctors visits & prescriptions), but the potential side-effects are dangerous, too.
Here is a published list of potential side-effects from the Semaglutide, Ozempic.
Risk of Thyroid Tumors
Pancreatitis
Gaseous Stomach Pain
Recurrent Fever
Severe Nausea/Vomiting
Lightheadedness
Severe Allergic Reactions
Acute Kidney Injury (Bloody Urine)
Increased Heart Rate
Diarrhea
+ MORE!
For Fad/Trend Diets, the costs are probably more along the lines of:
Unnecessary Elimination of Certain Foods
Increased peer/social pressure
Negative bodily reactions due to sudden changes in diet(s)
etc.
We just ask that you stop & consider: Is this “Quick Fix” worth the cost?
Wait, how does this work??
Again, there is enormous value in understanding the WHY.
WHY do Semaglutides help people lose weight?
They target the GLP-1 receptors in the brain, helping you feel more full, therefore eating less.
The concept is simple: less calories in than calories out = weight loss (simple energy balance).
That seems harmless, right?
Yeah, except for the alarming list of potential side-effects listed above along with the fact that this requires the recruitment of pharmaceutical injections.
WHY does the KETO diet help people lose weight?
For every 1gram of CARB your body intakes, your body also holds 2-3g of WATER.
When you eat <20g per day (or whatever KETO requires), you lose a LOT of water weight.
So, does the weight actually stay off? Most of the time, no.
Additionally, you are having to rely on the internal process of ketosis, where your body converts stored fat to energy.
The body must do this because it has no carbohydrates to burn (your body’s #1 preferred source of energy).
The process of ketosis isn’t a bad thing, but it’s just not sustainable long-term as the main source of fuel/weight loss.
As you can see from these two brief examples, understanding the WHY can very much help in the decision-making process.
Will I be able to SUSTAIN this?
This is the biggest reason why I don’t like “Quick Fixes.”
Check out the article we wrote about dieting here.
With “Quick Fixes” you’re forced to answer the question -
What do I do when this ends?
With injections/pills, if your lifestyle didn’t change, you’ll gain the weight right back.
If you don’t understand WHY the fad/trend diet works, you won’t be able to continue it.
If the fad/trend diet is super aggressive, you won’t be able to sustain it.
Sure, you could diet on and off for the rest of your life, trying everything under the sun.
But, that doesn’t solve the ROOT of your weight gain, performance inadequacy, or whatever you’re up against.
Win for GOOD
The ROOT of it all lives in: why is this happening and how do I counter it in a safe, efficient, affordable, sustainable way.
Once you determine that, you’re on your way to SUSTAINABLE, LIFE CHANGE.
