If I never encountered difficulty, my perspective on the world would probably reflect an attitude of complacency and carelessness, and honestly - ignorance.
Ignorance is bliss, but it’s also a detrimental to growth.
Alternatively, if I encounter difficulty, and overcome it, I now gain perspective.
Perspective is Powerful
Perspective (n): a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view
Recently, I’ve gotten into “Hybrid Training,” basically - mixing running with CrossFit.
Instead of CrossFit 5-6x per week, I’ll do CrossFit 3-4x per week and run 2-3x per week.
I’ve enjoyed it!!
Before starting this method of training, the furthest I’d ever ran at one time was a 5k (3.1 miles).
Back in September/October, a group of friends from church invited me to do a Half Marathon Mountain Trail Race with them (13.1 miles) - 4.22 TIMES the farthest I’ve ever ran.
My perspective was “That sounds pretty crazy, running over 4x the amount I’ve ever ran at once.”
So, the training began! I met them at a trail in October and we ran 9 miles.
I had now TRIPLED my farthest run, and was only 4 miles short of the distance the race would be.
Through encountering something difficult, a challenge, my perspective had shifted tremendously.
Now, my perspective was “I CAN DO THIS!”
FAST FORWARD
I’ve now completed the 1/2 Marathon Trail Race, placing THIRD PLACE out of almost 50 people.
My perspective has shifted even more, my confidence has grown, and my body has adjusted to variable training methodologies - all through uncomfortable challenges.
Now, when something difficult presents itself, my perspective allows my attitude to say - “If you did the Mountain Trail Race, you can surely accomplish this.”
Embrace the HARD
If we’re being honest, we are often tempted to take the easy opt-out.
I want to encourage you to EMBRACE THE HARD.
The Nutrition & Performance goals you’ve set for yourself aren’t met without sacrifice.
If they could be met without sacrifice, EVERYONE WOULD BE FIT.
Instead, our goals are met by small, consistent, intentional actions - difficult ones at that.
For those in our program - consider your mindset when we first introduced counting macronutrients to you.
If you’re anything like me, you were probably overwhelmed!
Now, after reading the eBook, receiving 1:1 coaching, accountability, and motivation, and having the experience of counting macros on a daily basis, you have a significantly deeper understanding of it all!
Your perspective went from “this is a foreign language” to “this is muscle memory at this point.”
Through uncomfortable challenges, you’ve grown and unlocked a new, sustainable way to monitor, guide, and execute elevated Nutrition & Performance.
. . .
I encourage all who are reading this to take a step back and analyze where you’ve overcome adversity & gained perspective this year.
Use those realizations as encouragement to keep going!
Have a GREAT WEEKEND!
God Bless,
