We’ve somewhat covered this topic in our post -
But today, I want to dissect even a little more!
The Process vs. The Results
Nick Saban says it this way -
"The scoreboard means nothing. Play the next play, dominate the man in front of you and don't let the scoreboard affect you." (The Gadsden Times, Tommy Deas)
What does he mean by that??
The scoreboard is just a REFLECTION of the game, but it’s not the actual game.
If you win the plays, you win the drive, you score points, and those go on the scoreboard.
The team who does that most often within a game, will WIN that game (their score will be greater on the scoreboard).
So how does this relate to nutrition?
Focus on the Next Right Thing
Our “Scoreboard” in Nutrition could be the following -
Our Body Weight
Our Muscle Mass
Our Body Fat %
Our Body/Limb Measurements
Our Scores on an Event/Lift
Our Performance in a Race
but, how are those scores even achieved?
The results (the scores) are a culmination of the decisions you make on a moment-to-moment, day-to-day, and week-to-week basis.
The attainment (or lack of) your goals are a REFLECTION of your effort, your intentionality, and your will.
To get where you want to go, you have to just do the next right thing.
What does this tangibly look like?
Small Decisions, Big Results
When the alarm clock goes off for the early morning gym session, don’t hit snooze.
When you’ve had one piece of candy and are tempted with 2-3 more, walk away.
When you want to quit during the run, just place one foot in front of the other.
When you’re ordering at a restaurant, consider your why.
When everyone else is getting drunk, stop after 1 or 2.
When your peers tell you you can’t, tell yourself “I can.”
These every day, small decisions LEAD to the results you’re desiring.
The results don’t just come - they’re a culmination of everything leading up to that.
