Our business tends to slow down this time of year, as do most!
BUT, ours in particular..
Folks seem to “give up” on their nutrition during the holidays.
“It’s just 2 months..”
“But I have SO many parties!”
“Come on, this is the time to cut back and enjoy it all.”
“I don’t want to NOT be able to eat thanksgiving and Christmas food..”
“So you want me to go on a DIET during the holidays?!”
To be fair, those are ALL valid reasons.
But, they’re also NOT reasons to throw it all out the window.
Let me explain!
The Difference
Let’s look at a holiday scenario from two perspectives:
Person A Someone who is LOST when it comes to Nutrition
Person B Someone who understands Macros, Calories, and how to control Food vs. Letting Food control them
THE SCENARIO
You’ve been invited to a “Friendsgiving” and are looking forward to eating holiday food with close friends. The spread contains loads of appetizers, one or two meat dishes, and a spread of dessert. There will be alcohol as well.
Person A They see this opportunity as an all-out free-for-all, saying “It’s only one night. What could it hurt?” So, they eat normally throughout the day, only to over-indulge on apps at the party, eat minimal meat dishes, have two plates of dessert, and a few sugar-y cocktails.
To be fair, it IS “only one night.” However, they will be feeling it the next day, not really understanding the absurd amount of carbs and fats they consumed with minimal protein.
They look forward to the next outing, but not the way they feel the next morning.
They’re not really sure what to change, except to try to “work it off” or “just eat less” the next go around.
Person B They are also ready to cut loose and enjoy the night, but with a slightly different approach..
During the day, the make sure to exercise, stay moving throughout the day via standing at their desk or parking far away in the parking lot, they prioritize their protein with minimal fat and carb intake, and make sure to stay hydrated during the day.
When they arrive at the party, they drink a glass of water first, and try one small piece of every appetizer. Maybe a second of the one they liked the most!
Alcohol? Sure, but they drink it on the rocks without the sugar-y mixture.
Next, they go straight for the meat plates! How come? Because they KNOW protein is the most satiating macronutrient and will prevent them from over-indulgence.
Dessert? Absolutely. They aren’t eating the whole pie, but they don’t skip it either.
They know that they’re not on a strict diet necessarily, they just understand what foods do for their body - how they make them feel and how they affect their performance and recovery.
. . .
Now, let’s say Person B got to the party and went haywire, same as Person A.
Because they exercised, stayed active, stayed hydrated, and prioritized protein during the day before they arrived, they’d STILL be in a better spot.
WHY? Because their body is more efficient at burning calories and they’re most likely going to exercise again the next day, or day after.
They’re “ahead of the game” if that makes sense.
Which One Do You Want To Be?
If you’re anything like me, you’ve been Person A at the party.
I can promise, Person B feels a lot better than Person A in the long haul.
You don’t have to suffer a huge setback this Holiday Season.
Let me say that again -
YOU DON’T HAVE TO SUFFER A HUGE SETBACK THIS HOLIDAY SEASON!
All it takes is consistent, intentional decision making.
Small decisions.
They add up.
Enjoy This
Here at E3 Nutrition, we don’t expect you to be “that person” at the party that only drinks water & says “Sorry, I’m on a diet.”
No, not at all.
But, we would like to educate you about nutrition, empowering you to make the right decisions during the holidays so that you are elevated, rather than declining during this season.
As you can see from the example, there are two ways to navigate this all. If you’d like additional assistance helping make those right decisions, we’d love to help.
